Marble Falls Competes, Community Wins
There is nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, and as Huber Engineered Materials (HEM) employees in Marble Falls, Texas, have shown, the results can have a positive impact that goes far beyond the plant walls.
HEM’s Marble Falls site held its first-ever Inter-Department Food Drive Challenge in May. The approximately 50 employees onsite divided into teams based on their respective departments, with a goal of seeing which department could gather the most food over a two-week period. The food would then be donated to The Helping Center of Marble Falls, a local food bank.
Four departments participated in the food drive challenge. For the next two weeks, employees bought and donated non-perishable items, including canned food, cereal, breakfast bars and peanut butter.
All told, the challenge collected 1,527 items—about 2,000 pounds (907 kilograms) of food.
Employees delivered the donations, which filled the back of two pickup trucks, to The Helping Center on May 28. The Helping Center director stated that with everything HEM’s Marble Falls plant donated, they should not have to shop for over two weeks.
The team was so pleased with the results of their competition that they decided to expand their Huber Helps activity beyond the plant, issuing a challenge to other Marble Falls-area businesses to beat their total.
